Chaff it Up

So what is Chaffing?

So far we have had two customers take the time to write in to ask us what chaffing means. And this is quite a lot considering that everyone is mostly too busy to bother with pens and paper and envelopes anymore. So we thought we had better devote a bit of time to explaining it fully and properly:

chaffing scones

‘To chaff’ is a verb that is used on many parts of the British Isles to mean, ‘to tease someone in a good natured way.’ But it is also a word used almost exclusively in the Northern Irish bakery world to mean ‘to knead lightly.’ The hand motion is therefore a sort of an Olympic tap turning exercise that requires significant reserves of deftness and stamina to complete only one order of scones.

A Compliment and a Challenge

genesis big pancakes
A terribly nice Canadian lady living in Surrey called Susan contacted us this week to tell us how much she liked our pancakes. And given that most ‘North Americans’ are pretty much pancake professionals, we got really excited and wanted to tell everyone that she called them, “real pancakes, that taste like the pancakes I’m used to in Canada!”

The only thing is, she wants us to come up with the “perfect bran muffin! (one of the most popular muffins in Canada which I have yet to find here.)” So just to let you know Susan, the six brothers are working on it and will let you know as soon as we come up with the goods.

Jammy People

Check out these jammy dodgers.

M&S choose us!

This isn’t just good news. It’s brilliant news:

Marks and Spencers appoint Genesis to produce buns and apple pies for their NI stores.

Getting your product into Marks and Spencers is like getting an A++ in additional maths – it’s only possible if you are at the top of your tree.

So we’re pretty pleased to announce that as of 1st May 2010, we are now producing iced tops, jam haystacks, cheesecakes, apple pies and apple crumbles for M&S’s multi-award winning ‘Simply Food’ stores.

Also keep your eye out for our special shaped potato bread and sodas to celebrate St Valentine’s and St Paddy’s days.
